License Plates

Ukraine's license plates feature a blue band on the left side of the plate with the Ukrainian flag and the country code UA. Plates are white with black text: UAAB 1234 CD. The first two letters represent the region where the vehicle was registered, the codes for which can be found in the Subdivisions list above.

Roads, Markings, and Signage

Highways & Road Numbering Schemes

The Ukrainian road network is divided into seven tiers, although only the first four are typically labeled:

  1. International (M-series)
  2. National (H-series)
  3. Regional (P-series)
  4. Territorial (T-series)

All tiers are signposted in the same format, with white text on a blue background: P01.

International Roads (Міжнародні)

These are the highest tier of roads in Ukraine, and form a national network with H-series roads.

Roads M01-M07 radiate in clockwise order out from Kyiv, and roads M09-M11 radiate in counterclockwise order from L'viv. Other roads are numbered up to M29.

National Roads (Національні)

Along with the M-series roads, these form the national road network. These routes are prefixed with an H, which is the Cyrillic equivalent to the Latin letter N, and are numbered from H01 to H33.

Regional Roads (Регіональні)

Regional roads form a second road network across Ukraine. They are usually prefixed with a P, which is the Cyrillic equivalent to the Latin letter R, and are numbered from P01 to P84. Road numbers roughly increase from west to east, although there are many exceptions.

Territorial Roads (Територіальні)

These are the lowest signed tier of roads, and are prefixed with a T. The first two digits of the road number is the code of the originating oblast, which can be found below (single-digit oblast codes are prefixed with a zero):

  1. Crimea
  2. Vinnytsya
  3. Volyn'
  4. Dnipropetrovs'k
  5. Donets'k
  6. Zhytomyr
  7. Zakarpattia
  8. Zaporizhzhya
  9. Ivano-Frankivs'k
  10. Kyiv
  11. Kyiv (City)
  12. Kirovohrad
  13. Luhans'k
  14. L'viv
  15. Mikolaiv
  16. Odesa
  17. Poltava
  18. Rivne
  19. Sumy
  20. Ternopil'
  21. Kharkiv
  22. Kherson
  23. Khmel'nyts'kyy
  24. Cherkasy
  25. Chernihiv
  26. Chernivtsi
  27. Sevastopol'

Territorial roads are numbered with four digits, including the two digit oblast code; so T1502 is in Mikolaiv Oblast.
