Roads, Markings, and Signage

Highways & Road Numbering Schemes

Roads in Slovakia are divided into three main tiers: motorways, also known as dial'nica; expressways, known as rýchlostná cesta; and national roads, or cesta. Slovakia inherited the eastern part of the older Czechoslovak road network, and so road numbers largely continue on the old system with some newer roads, like the expressways, following their own system.

Motorways (D-routes)

There are only four motorways in Slovakia, all prefixed with D on a red sign.
